Observation
The teacher hands out black and white copies of the actual image to the
pupils/students, who will try to find answers to these questions:
- How many parts are standing in the upper half of the picture?
- What is unnatural for the branches of the trees in the lowest row?
- How was the picture made?
- Suggest other titles/names for the picture.
Creative thinking
The pupils/students may imagine that the landscape of the picture was
once the scene of mysterious events and unsolved cases. What really happened?
Or, The pupils/students may imagine that this picture is illustrating
a newspaper article which is someone's opinion in a debate. In groups
the pupils/students may come up with relevant arguments and different
points of view. Together with the teacher they may write out the whole
article, which can be put up on the bulletin board in the classroom.
Orientation
Find the meaning of: montage, manipulation, collage.
Look up the maning of: gene, acid fall-out.
Manipulation of the drawing programmePaintShopPro5:
The picture is transferred to the drawing programme by scanner or disc.
The pupils/students turn the picture upside down by clicking Image and
Flip. The row of figures, now at the bottom, will be the tree trunks,
and the pupils/students are going to draw the trees so that they grow
upwards in the picture. They may use their imagination: whether the branches
will keep on growing towards the sky, and whether they want leaves on
them. Perhaps something is hiding in between the brances. One of the trees
may be distinguished as ''my hiding-place'' or ''my special tree''. With
Dropper they will find the colours that exist in the picture, but they
may also choose other colours.
